Masquerading is a theatrical face painting website that focuses on painting styles associated with Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. The galleries are large, holding over 1 000 images, and the information offered is compiled from several years of face painting experience.

UPDATES

16 February 2008: I've got a little bit more for you guys. Check the gallery for five or six new faces. I've been working on a set of makeup tutorials for a middle school in New Jersey, and got the chance to create a few more faces. Also, I've made a new video (yay!), and no, it's not an application video (aw), but rather a shout out and a thank you and an introduction to me all rolled up into one. It's embedded above (I'm sure you see it), so click play. =) To all of you who actually still check Masquerading, even after it's virtually lifeless stretch last year as I adjusted to college life - you are the reason I still write here. So yeah, check out my new stuff!

28 January 2008 : Finally, I know. I have new faces up, and the gallery is in a completely new format! (the new Gallery) A large part of the problem I had with being able to update was the format I'd chosen for presenting my work. It was all well and good when I was in highschool, and only did a face once in a while, and had the time to update my small gallery. But the volume of work has become huge, and I've moved on in my life and don't have as much time to painstakingly create new webpages every time I do something know. Also, I'd discovered a gallery and photosharing option for fourwaystretch, my costuming website. The format is tremendously easy for me to update, and though I made the decision a while ago to move the Masquerading galleries into a similar format, I hadn't gone about it until now. The two galleries are now combined (click home in the gallery and you will have access to the pictures from both websites) for your viewing pleasure, and everything should be organized from the most recent projects to the earliest. I believe comments are enabled, so if you have anything to say on a specific piece, please do say it and brighten my day!

28 April 07 : I was compelled to paint Sillabub again. As I have finished my latest personal costume. All pictures were taken in full getup. =)

27 April 07 : Two new faces. Both are "Alonzo," but from different sides of the pond. And the newest is done with my latest commissioned wig. Nothing is lined up for the summer, so if anyone who happens upon this wants a wig - I'm free, and would love it. =) Check out fourwaystretch for commissioning details!

4 April 07 : Another costume commission is completed, and again I get the chance to do accompanying makeup. Check out my latest tiger. All costume bits by me.

1 April 07 : I finished a commissioned with and was requested to do makeup with it. The result is posted!

9 March 07 : Another feminized character, George Bailey becomes Georgina Bailey. If you're wondering, the makeup challenge this month on the CCDB (Cats Costume Discussion Board) is gender bending. Heh.

8 March 07 : One new face, a female version of the Rum Tum Tugger. I can't decide how fond I am of this one. Needs practice, methinks. Mayhap the cold medicine is messing with my head, hum. Must be healthy for the weekend.

2 March 07 : I flipped around the "menu" bar on the left so that the newest faces are up top, rather than at the bottom where you have to scroll to see them.

27 February 07 : The section on setting makeup is up! Masquerading has been successfully rewritten. I may have a new plan for the galleries in the future as well, so stay tuned for that. And please do email me with any spelling or grammatical errors that you may find.

25 February 07 : I'm happy to bring you an entirely new section comparing oil-based paints and water-based paints. It includes an image of a facepainting with oil-based on my right side (viewer's left) and water-based on my left side (viewer's right). Can you tell the difference? Stay tuned for a new section on setting makeup and different agents to use, including tests, embedded videos, detailed pictures, and a surprising tip!

24 February 07 : Update #4 - I won't let you miss a thing. =P The look of the website has been tweaked. Did you notice? The background is different, and is arranged with an entirely new set of thumbnail images. Welcome to Masquerading | version3.0

24 February 07 : Update 3 - The section on elements has been rewritten, though not as extensively as the other sections. The FAQ section was removed because the most important information is available in the other informative sections.

24 February 07 : I've been taking the day to rehaul a lot of information (and I'm not done yet!). So far, the Step-by-step guide, List of Commonly used Tools, and my little "about me" real pictures page have been rehauled with greater eloquence, ease of understanding, awesome pictures and more accurate, tried, and true information.

24 February 07 : I've been realizing that all the text I wrote was done when I was maybe 15 years old. That is much too young, my writing style has improved immensely and I am much more knowledgable regarding facepainting, to the point where some of the things I thought were good when I was 15, I know realize that the opposite is true. So for the moment, be satisfied with a major rehauling of the Tips for General Makeup Application. The rest of the text should follow in the week ahead (hopefully sooner, I'm feeling motivated by a request to use information)

18 February 07 : Two new faces, yet another Rumpelteazer, modelled after the Moscow design, and a fulfilled request. =) To all of you who wanted to see the Flaming Leopard once more, it's been done - and on video.

16 February 07 : Added pictures of a new Bombalurina design - felt compelled to do makeup, as I constructed a new wig to go with it, as the old one was sold on eBay.

8 February 07 : A challenge was given and accepted - there is a Skimbleshanks face to show for it. Very short video to be added eventually.

7 February 07 : Two new faces, a broadway-influenced Demeter (with youtube video for entertainment value =P) and Sylvia, inspired by a friend's small kitten - also with an application video, not as entertaining but hopefully interesting nonetheless

6 February 07 : A Cheshire Cat face is up - brainstorming for a possible future personal costume project. Comments are welcome.

15 January 07 : Another face, done today - Broadway style Bombalurina - I think I may've finally found one that I like.

4 August 06 : Another update so soon? Yes. X) I've finally picked up the paints again, after two months. Yaaaay! I'm working on a costume for a tigre, as of yet unnamed, and I've been wanting to try out the makeup design for her.

31 July 06 : An update! Yaaaay! Finally, right? I'm putting up all the faces I did over the summer. Hopefully I'll still have time during uni. *crosses fingers* Where I'm wanting to major in THEATRE DESIGN - another yay. ^_^ But, yeah...there are SIX NEW PAGES up, and some good stuff in there. 6 April 06 : I'm still here, guys, I promise. School is about to kill me - but it's over the first week in May. So wish me luck getting through it. *crosses fingers* Meanwhile, I've deleated the discussion board. It's not used anymore, and it's been being spammed like craaaazy. So it's no more. I've got a few small painting things to add, and I'll do that when I find the time.

18 December 05 : Weeeeeeee have an update! *cheers* Exciting, no? Sorry, guys, school hit me really hard this year, what with orchestra and college applications on top of it. So now, I give you, the only three faces I've done since the beginning of the summer: Victoria (Halloween), Jemima (three nights ago), and Demeter (two nights ago). Final. Meh. Enjoy. *bows*

28 June 05 : Just going about making rounds with the tutorials, updating the information with my current knowledge. I got through the FAQ and the elements. I tried to make the FAQ more general (as opposed to CATS-specific) and fixed wording in places. I'll come back to the rest when I have time.

25 June 05 : I haven't had time to update. >.< I've done a bit of painting, though. My internet was down earlier this month and then I had a flush of babysitting jobs. Bleh. But now stuff is up. I attempted a new Electra design (some things I like, some I don't, but it was adorable with the wig =P), stage-style. Still needs tweaking. And then our church finished up it's weeklong Vacation Bible School event, at the end of which is always a party/festival thing, at which I generally supply face painting skills. Which, of course, gives me an excuse to paint myself. X) We had an African Safari theme this year, I was a leopard. It's encouraging when two year olds smile at you and play peekaboo. =P

And on another note.... I HIT 10 000 VISITS! That can be happy, right? ^_^

31 May 05 : Put up a page with painting from fan character Nemisis, par request on my tagboard. Apparently it turned out okay (according to the creator), so I'm game for posting it. X)

28 May 05 : Finally putting up my Jemima pictures from Tuesday. I love the eyes. Not sure about the eyebrows, at least for a kitten. But cool effect overall. Maybe an older Jemima look? *unsure* There are elements of both. *shrugs*

And another finally, I did a Phantom-esque thing earlier in the month. I kinda forgot the date, so I picked an early Saturday. No one honestly cares, though, right? lol

15 May 05 : Upon my routine checking of counter statistics, 'cause I trust my server's counter more than my free counter, my site's at over 9000 visits. ^_^ Rejoice.

18 April 05 : Did a Demeter, stage-style. Bold colours, thick lining, all that jazz, so it's not as much of a technical piece as the Rumpelteazer was. More of an experimentation with ideas. And I hate the end of the school year. >.< Also noticed that I'm up past 8000 visits...cooli. ^_^ Nearly at 10 000 *shifty eyes*

31 March 05 : 'Tis my spring break from school.... did a Rumpelteazer face. It's okay...I always manage to get the eyebrows coming in too far and it makes me look 4 years old. >.< But some of the pictures turned out looking older....good picture batch, actually, just hope the face paint goes to match. =P

2 March 05 : Did an extra credit project for english last night, 'something creative regarding 'The Scarlet Letter',' a book we're reading by Nathaniel Hawthorne, so I got creative....results have been posted

10 January 05 : And a happy new year....I've changed the 5000 visits line to 6000...w00t. ^_^ And...mmmm....just coming to say what's going on as of late. School's started back up. I tried to get a bit done during the Christmas break, now that it's back, with honours and AP classes and all sorts of nasty things, I'll probably slack off again. >.< I know..... I'm not stopping, definitely, just saying I'm short of time. And, on an off-note....it's my birthday on the 13th! Three days! I'm excited. X) Just in case anyone cares. Cheers.

24 December 04 : Finally getting to 'relax' during my winter holiday. ~_^ I've had several requests for a repeat of the flaming leopard design featured in the layout, and I've finally gotten around to it, with several small changes and such, but overall I think it's still successful. This time 'twas done with Ben Nye Cremes, and since I was mixing their bright yellow and bright red, creating a bright orange, it's all..just....rather bright. X) But not bad.... also made up a siamese sort of design today, I shall have to post later.... hard to find time in the midst of family.... I don't mind, but you'll have to wait a bit. XP So enjoy what I have for now.

12 December 04 : Not as bad of a wait between updates...finally over exam week at school, on with the holidays. *waves a paintbrush in the air* Exams are my excuse for not posting earlier, but during the week (destressor), I did a broadway-ish Sillabub. At least, more Broadway than I usually do. Much better than my previous Sillabub. >.< Enjoy.

23 November 04 : I don't even quite have an excuse this time.... Just so busy. >.< A lot comes up. But I've finally gotten some new face painting for you people. I redid my character Roxanne, who was in bad need of a proper painting with creme paints and all. So there she is. *nods*

6 November 04 : >.< I know, it's been forEVER since I've updated. >.< My life has been dumping so much on me, it's been really hard. But, as last week was the last week of october, I simply had to indulge myself with American traditions. X) So, yes, there are new face painting pictures up, from three different nights. One night when I was trying out a new idea of Electra that I had in my head, the first night actually wearing it out, and then the eve of the 31st. *nods* I haven't forgotten my paints, I promise. X)

13 October 04 : From a while ago. Added four small pics to the 'various' page. Some flowers and a paw print in school colours. Just random cheek art. *shrugs* Might find time for larger scale painting later on. X) I hope. Midterms this week. >.<

4 October 04 : From today, got up the page with Victoria pictures. Yet another new design. X) I rather like this one, too.

4 October 04 : From yesterday, I painted chorus Grizabella and then advanced it to the song Grizabella. Chorus, I love. Song, I don't. Wrinkles make such a difference. XD Turned out well, though. Expect more soon, I'm Victoria right now. XP Haven't uploaded pics yet, though.

2 October 04 : Added to the various page, several small things I've done as of late. Experimenting with mixing colours and making masques. Themed with school spirit. X)

28 September 04 : Added a page, did an embellished CATS based upon Jemima, 'cept with white flares over the eyes. I rather like how it turned out. Also did up my sister for her seventh birthday. X) We went out for ice cream in the paints. Ever so much fun. ^_^

20 September 04 : Finally getting this up, from the eighteenth, went to a friend's house and we got to try Stein's greasepaints. Once I get up a critique of brands, should be there. Once I find time. School and band and church.... really full schedule. 'Tis driving me insane. I'll paint and update when I can, though. I've got another bit from later that day, green and gold masques by my friend and moi, shall put those up in a bit. And yes, I know the update graphic's got the wrong date and pic. *le sigh*

13 September 04 : Someone let me know the pics on the new page weren't working...discovered I hadn't formatted any of the new page, date description, number of pics, etc. Go me. lol I think it's fixed now, though.

12 September 04 : Did Electra makeup to match my wig and newly finished costume this past weekend. ^_^ So it's up here.

6 September 04 : Added a page for various painted art. Meaning not full face or wotever. Has a purpose .X) Did a hummingbird, 'tis awesomeness, and tried a sort of floral thing. So both of those are up there. Various listed in the menu right after theolder pics....just for reference. X) Too lazy to update the update graphic. lol Oh, well.

31 August 04 : Did a yellow and black masque thing, for the fun of it. Thought it would be a fun project, plus I still had the option of blowing my nose. XD (Home sick all day...ack). Turned out pretty well, for a first masque attempt. Hard to get block colours to go on over black, even set, but semi managable. *nods*

30 August 04 : Yeah, the date's wrong on the update thingy. Did a SAD, sad attempt at a zebra face. I'm not overly pleased with it. Equine features are just evil. Washed it off to leave a masque, though, and that was absolute coolness. *nods* So...yeah....

23 August 04 : 2001 London Munkustrap, straight from the book. I rarely do designs and try to make them exactly like the design in whichever specific production, but I had a craving to do this one. So creepy looking like a guy, but still an awesomely fun design to do.

16 August 04 : And the sixteenth of the month roles around again. Plus, I needed a stress reliever. *is feeling better now* Had a marvelous time painting up as a snow leopard. Pics came out mostly blurry this time, it's bothering me. Gah....but sitll good enough to show what I've done. *nods*

15 August 04 : Ideas grow on me very quickly...must act on them. X) Did a puma/cougar/mountain lion/florida panther type design, and I'm rather pleased with it, methinks. *nods* Good blending with browns and golds, methinks.

13 August 04 : w00t for Friday the 13th. X) Did my first non-feline design, in response to positive replies for trying a fox. I'm not sure how well I like it, or how well it turned out. Gonna post it on the discussion board to get some feedback. 'Tis okay, I suppose. *shrugs* Posted it, though. Along with a mini-tutorial and wot. *nods*

8 August 04 : One more gallery page; last night, did up my friend as US Tour Bomb. Got her to let me do the painting, and I'm ever so pleased with how it turned out. Simple yet effective. ^_^ Also myself from today, not quite all the way pleased, but some good furry/detail work, so that's good. *nods* Decent, I suppose. Looks kind of like one of my kitties, now I think of it...lol Also added one new pic to the 'real me' pics, I'm lovin' this new one. *nods* And my new nifty little tag board...leave me a note. ^_^ Cheers.

4 August 04 : Yet another update... Got a challenge from a friend to convert a male CATS design into a female design, and I'm rather happy how it turned out. 'Tis a female Carbucketty. As well as converting it, I also had a bit of fun with blending and wot. I'm really loving this one.... *is going to leave for work in it within twenty minutes* XD Hope it doesn't scare the childrens...lol

3 August 04 : (yes, I know the date on the mini graphic is wrong) Added one new page. Not too many pictures of a weird Electra design, but then again, was caught up in the excitement of seeing CATS again. 23 July 04 : Inspired by Blimey cat to do a cheetah. Did it with a CATS style muzzle this time, instead of 'all over realistic' look. It worked all right, I suppose. My first time trying the Bob Kelly creme liners instead of Ben Nye. I recommend the later. Bob Kelly is harder to work with, especially for details. It doesn't like to go on smoothly... I'll do a larger makeup compare/contrast sort of thing later, now that I've tried both. Note, though, Bob Kelly worked well for the base, going on quickly, smoothly, and blending well. Just not nice for details.

21 July 04 : Decided to try once again a Victoria, as the other two never did turn out right, and it's much better this time. Still need to make the eyebrows a tad more symmetrical, but other than that it turned out well, I think. Comments on the discussion board are welcome and encouraged.

19 July 04 : Nice update...added a new gallery page with tiger face paint, which I'd been wanting to do for a while; added a mini tiger tutorial type thing at the bottom of the page, to see how it worked out. Also added a page with shorts on various tools one might use while painting, though I'm sure I've forgotten something. XP

18 July 04 : Relatively a while since my last update...which is sad in itself. Also sad is that I'm updating with pics of four different face designs. XD From the 13, a US Tour Sillabub using Snazaroo. I don't like this one too much... =/ All I had was the Snazaroo CATS kit PINK pink colour, and it didn't go well...besides, the eyers just aren't as much fun. =P Second, from the 14 (when my Ben Nye and Bob Kelly creme liner order came in w00t), a random eye design. I didn't have much time, but I HAD to do something, so...yeah...this is what came of it. Third, when I had time to work with my BN Creme Liners, a London Jemima (better than my first attempt at a whole face w/ creme liners) and a full-face butterfly design. For going to work at church (painting kids faces at a festival thing; so much fun ^_^) Mini-analysis of paints and such things coming shortly, as well as some CATS character diagrams

12 July 04 : I think everything regarding the new layout is working, but if you find anything that's not, PLEASE let me know. Also went through the entire gallery and cropped some pictures, just to be sure. I've been meeting too many creepy people as of late. O.o Frightening things....

9 July 04 : Another new gallery page, from today. I did a white base and detail work was completely unplanned. Not high on the 'cuteness' factor as others, but still very cool, I think. Sort of leopard-ish, but 'flaming'....

8 July 04 : One new gallery page, myself as Roxanne, using both Snazaroo and cheap Halloween paints. Also ordered some new cream paints, so I can get away from the cheaper stuff for a while. =P *waits for the order to arrive*

6 July 04 : Added one link with another's face painting pictures to the links page; trying to persuade mum to let me buy Ben Nye Cremes (lol) Also added a counter. Not counting multiple visits, I've all ready been visited by 74 different users in six days. O.o Mildly creepy, yet complete awesomeness....lol...keep 'em comin'!

5 July 04 : Fourth of July (US Independance Day)...lovely day for face painting. ^_^ Watching fireworks. In wigs and makeup. With friends. Screaming 'Macavity' at fireworks on occassion. Belting Growltiger's Last stand. Scaring other people at the party. *mad cackle* So, yes, new pictures are me as London Rumpelteazer with a borrowed wig (the other people didn't feel like pictures...evil.) These pictures are after having worn the makeup for...maybe six or seven hours. My first attempt at using Ben Nye Creams, and they are LOVELY! With the Ben Nye setting powder, they didn't move. I spilt a drink, I was out in some rain, I was dancing which made me a bit sweaty, I was eating, I was laughing, I was role plalying. That stuff is amazing. I need some of my own. *mad cackle* Oh, and yes...spikes on my collar fell off. Was humid enough to melt the glue and some of the glitter, but not my face paint. Lovely, eh? ^_^ Better account on the painting forum

29 June 04 : Updated the 'real me' pictures with newer ones, because the old ones were crap...of course, I'll probably say that about these within a month, but you know. =P

28 June 04 : One new page of pictures. I'd wanted to do Japanese faces, and my friend came over...and...yeees.... *mad cackle* Only problem is, I'm not as good at identifying Japanese cats... so I'm not exactly sure who I am. 21 June 04 : Two new pages. Both using crappy halloween face paints, but turning out rather well as skill has improved. A US Tour Rumpelteazer and a US Tour Cassandra, coupled with a US Tour Demeter and a made up Victoria respectively. I've also written a step-by-step bit, I took pictures for it while doing the latest Rumpelteazer, so go and see that for generic tips.

17 June 04 : One new page, another Ele, embellished a little bit. Different from my 'usual' style. And with a wig! I got me an Electra wig. *beams* I HAD to try it on with makeup and wot. *hugs wig*

5 June 04 : Added one new page, a pinkish Jemima design embellished a bit. Just having much fun with my paints. ^_^ Tips and other such writings are being written, they are...just a bit longer. ^_^

24 May 04 : Added yet another two new bits. One from another sleepover, two completely made up CATS. I've gone crazy with pink and black myself, my friend did another made up yellowy cat. The other one is from today, I got the weirdest craving to paint myself as a 'real' cat, and make myself look furry and wot. It's really not nearly as pretty as CATS style makeup, and I look like a guy. *grimace* BUT, it turned out amazingly cool anywho, I had to take pictures, you see. Scarilly realistic for a cat look on a human, methinks. XP Take a peek.

17 May 04 : Added two new bits, Electra photo shoot from the 16 of April, after I'd gotten back from seeing CATS in said face paint, and one from last night, in which I doodled with a made up Victoria design and embellished upon it. ^_^

9 May 04 : Finished moving images to the server; added the try from two weekends ago (Tantomile and Trista) as well as last night (Rumpelteazer and Jemima)
